Sandor’s Study Leave
During Sandor’s Study Leave from Friday 1 May to Thursday 21 May the Rev David Kellas from Glenelg will lead worship at both morning and evening services today and on Sunday 17th May. Sandor will attend the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh from Saturday 16 May to Friday 22 May and return to duty thereafter.
Coffee Morning in Aid of Relief to Nepal
The Sunday School, Youth Fellowship and Crèche will be holding a Coffee Morning in the Church Hall at 12.30 pm today. Proceeds from this venture will go to aid for Nepal.As a consequence of this event, there will be no AMWF in the church today,but instead the fellowship after the service will continue in the Church Hall.Please support the efforts of our younger members.
Crèche
There is a crèche in the Church Hall behind the Church if anyone wishes to leave their children there during the morning service.Sunday School and Youth Fellowship meet every Sunday during the school term. They meet initially in the Church before moving to the Church Hall.
The Ladies’ Bible Study Group
This group meets in the Church Hall on Tuesdays from 10.30 am to 12.00 noon. All ladies welcome.
The Prayer Fellowship
This group will meet in the Church Hall at 7.00 pm each Tuesday evening All are welcome to attend.
Summer Opening of the Church to Visitors
Anyone willing to take on one or more of the slots on the rota for opening the church during the months of June to the end of August should give their name to Ishbel Beattie (0787 611 0984)
Retiral Collection
At a joint meeting of the Congregational Board and Kirk Session on Thursday 30 April it was agreed that a retiral collection will be taken at the end of each service today with the proceeds going to Disasters Emergency Committee to aid the people of Nepal following the earthquakes which have hit that country.
Festubert Commemoration
On Sunday 17 May a parade of organisations from Skye and Kingussie will march from the Gathering Hall to Somerled Square where a short service of remembrance will be held for those men from Portree and Kingussie who fell at the Battle of Festubert on Sunday 17 May 1915.Ten men from Portree were amongst those who died in battle and whose names are recorded on the Portree War Memorial.Rev Hector Mackenzie and Rev David Kellas will lead the worship in the square after which the parade will dismiss.As a consequence of these arrangements, Morning Worship on Sunday 17 May will commence at approximately 11.15 am.
Holidays
The holiday period will soon be upon us and members of the congregation will be visiting many different parts of the country. If anyone visits a church elsewhere and finds that, like Portree Parish Church, spare copies of a magazine are available to visitors then the Magazine Committee would be extremely grateful to receive a copy. These can provide ideas forfuture articles in our own magazineAny magazines obtained can be placed in the Magazine Folder in the Front Vestibule.
