Summer Opening of the Church to Visitors :
Over July and August, our church was open for visitors every weekday between 11am and 4pm. Over the course of 40 days we had some 4,448 visitors – an average of 111 per day. Our busiest day was 4th July with 221 visitors.
There was always member of the congregation on hand to welcome visitors, and answer any questions. We had prayer cards available on the pews, with paper copies to be taken away if required, along with a leaflet on the history of the parish church.
Visitors came from all corners of the world, with cruise ships, bus tours, local tours, individuals, friends and families – some came in just to look at the church but many stopped for a quiet time, giving the opportunity for sharing interesting conversations and times of prayer.
The Minister and Kirk Session are very grateful to the members of the congregation who gave of their time and energy for this activity which we had undertaken for many years prior to the pandemic, and we were delighted to be able to offer this facility once again.

Compassion Sunday :
The recent initiative to sponsor children in some of the most deprived areas of the world produced wonderful comments and results.
We are especially encouraged by the response from the congregation in sponsoring 10 children from a range of countries: 6 from Burkina Faso in Africa including Eliassa, an 11 year old boy being sponsored by the Sunday School, and 4 others from Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala and Bangladesh. Donations received will be used initially to support Eliassa and his family, since there’s an opportunity to send birthday and Christmas gifts to children and their families.
If anyone else is interested in finding out more about sponsoring a child in Jesus’ name, please speak to Bill.
There are also leaflets at the church door. We’ll be giving updates from time to time about the children we’re sponsoring, as we learn more about them and the churches and communities to which they belong.

Compassion Sunday :
Today, at Morning Worship, we are hosting an event in aid of Compassion UK, – a leading child development charity that equips churches in some of the world’s poorest countries with the skills, resources and finances to reach out to those within communities experiencing poverty.
The most vulnerable are so often children.
Compassion partners with local churches in 29 countries across the world. They work together with these churches to support more than two million children in poverty, providing the children with all the benefits of sponsorship.
Not only are these children being given practical benefits like food, clothing and access to education, but loving Christian staff know them personally.
Through the local church, children have the opportunity to learn about Jesus and His love for them. They have a place where they can just be children and enjoy the freedom of playing with their friends.
The purpose of the event is to give details of how, for £32 per month, the church or any individual can sponsor a child.
There will be a short presentation during the morning service and this will be followed by a Soup and Pudding Lunch in the Church Hall where further details and sponsorship forms will be available. All welcome!

Not only are these children being given practical benefits like food, clothing and access to education, but loving Christian staff know them personally.
Through the local church, children have the opportunity to learn about Jesus and His love for them. They have a place where they can just be children and enjoy the freedom of playing with their friends.
The purpose of the event is to give details of how, for £32 per month, the church or any individual or group of individuals can sponsor a child.
There will be a short presentation during the morning service, and this will be followed by a Soup and Pudding Lunch in the Church Hall where further details and sponsorship forms will be available.
