Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal 2020
A message from Roddy Beaton:
Despite the challenges they face every day, through poverty, illness, disability, or other disadvantages, receiving a shoebox brings so much immense joy to children and adults in Eastern Europe, that their faces beam with a huge smile. Charities are struggling this year at home and abroad and like all other dependant organisations the Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal is more needed than ever.
2020 has certainly reminded us of our dependence on God and the necessity of prayer. The receipt of a shoe box brightens up Christmas for the recipients who are overwhelmed with the gift of things we take for granted (articles some have never seen in their lives) – toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb, pencils for children to help with education etc. The realisation that someone, somewhere in the world has taken the time to fill a box and that they matter is huge. The box also brings the message of the love of Jesus as literature in their own language is added to the box by Blythswood.
These wonderful words in Acts 20 v 35: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’. Jesus had compassion on all he met. The gift of a shoe box can be a huge physical and spiritual gift to the recipient.
Leaflets for the box, detailing items needed can be obtained from the Blythswood shop at the pier in Portree and I also have a small stock. Boxes can be handed in to the shop or alternatively handed to me.
It would be appreciated if boxes could be handed in by 6th November
Through this challenging time we have a special need to support the vulnerable and marginalised people who are most affected by this crisis. We must reflect on God’s love and that he shares in our sorrow and despair and brings the assurance of new life.
