INTIMATIONS
Covid :
While Covid is still present in the community, the majority of our congregation are now fully vaccinated against the virus.
The Kirk Session and Congregational Board have decided that we could now relax our previous strong recommendation that face coverings should be worn in the church.
The wearing of these face coverings will now be a matter of personal choice.
The cleaning and disinfecting regime in the church will continue, but at a reduced frequency. It will still be sanitised before each Sunday worship.
After Morning Worship Fellowship :
After our Morning Worship today, Tea , Coffee, Juice, and biscuits will be served in the Church. Please stay behind for as long or short a time as you can manage and enjoy a time of fellowship with other members of the congregation and with visitors to our church.
Sunday Evening Services :
Evening services are held in the church each Sunday and commence at 6.00 pm.
Sunday School :
Sunday School is closed for the Summer holiday period. Classes will resume next Sunday, 20 August.
Ladies’ Bible Study Group :
The Ladies’ Bible Study Group has closed for the Summer holiday period. Group meetings will resume this coming Tuesday, 15 August.
All ladies are invited to attend.
Bible Study & Prayer Fellowship Services :
These services are held in the Church at 7.00 pm each Tuesday evening.
All are invited to attend.
Pastoral Visits :
The Minister asks that he be kept informed of any member of the congregation who is ill, in hospital or would welcome a visit from him.
Church Magazine – Summer Edition :
We hope to publish this edition by Sunday 27 August. The closing date for contributions is today.
Congregational Board and Kirk Session :
A meeting of the Congregational Board will take place in the Church on Thursday 17 August, commencing at 7.00 pm with a meeting of Kirk Session following thereafter.
All relevant papers will be issued before the meetings.
Citation to attend a Presbytery Meeting :
With the exception of Strath and Sleat, all other parishes in the Presbytery of Lochcarron Skye have been involved in voting for Unions and/or boundary changes.
On Sunday 16 July Portree Church had the opportunity to vote on the Basis for the Deferred Union of Portree, Kilmuir and Staffin.
Following congregational votes in favour, presbytery will be invited to confirm the Union of Portree, Kilmuir & Staffin (deferred) and so the current congregations of Portree and Kilmuir & Stenscholl are cited to attend our meeting on 15 August. In the event of presbytery’s agreement, the search for a minister of Kilmuir & Stenscholl pro tem can begin. Meanwhile John Lamont will continue as Locum and Interim Moderator for Kilmuir & Stenscholl .
Congregations of the other affected parishes are also being cited to attend this meeting.
When a congregation is cited to attend a meeting of presbytery it is because a significant decision affecting that congregation is on the agenda. It is customary for those representing their congregation to appoint a spokesperson who may be invited to speak, though the decision belongs to members of presbytery.
Therefore, the following congregations are cited to attend the meeting of presbytery on Tuesday 15 August in the Hebridean Inn near Broadford:
Portree, Kilmuir & Stenscholl , Applecross, Lochcarron and Torridon, Glenelg, Kintail & Lochalsh, Gairloch & Dundonnel.
The meeting begins at 11am and you will be free to depart as soon as the item of business in which you have an interest has been addressed, while members of presbytery will remain for the rest of the meeting.
Session Clerks are asked to confirm by 9.00 am on Monday 14 August how many of their congregation will attend.
I would be grateful if those who intend to be present at the meeting give me their names at the end of the service or phone me to ensure they are included.
