A meeting of the Congregational Board will take place in the Church on Thursday 17 August, commencing at 7.00 pm with a meeting of Kirk Session following thereafter.
All relevant papers will be issued before the meetings.
Citation to attend a Presbytery Meeting :
With the exception of Strath and Sleat, all other parishes in the Presbytery of Lochcarron Skye have been involved in voting for Unions and/or boundary changes.
On Sunday 16 July Portree Church had the opportunity to vote on the Basis for the Deferred Union of Portree, Kilmuir and Staffin.
Following congregational votes in favour, presbytery will be invited to confirm the Union of Portree, Kilmuir & Staffin (deferred) and so the current congregations of Portree and Kilmuir & Stenscholl are cited to attend our meeting on 15 August. In the event of presbytery’s agreement, the search for a minister of Kilmuir & Stenscholl pro tem can begin. Meanwhile John Lamont will continue as Locum and Interim Moderator for Kilmuir & Stenscholl .
Congregations of the other affected parishes are also being cited to attend this meeting.
When a congregation is cited to attend a meeting of presbytery it is because a significant decision affecting that congregation is on the agenda. It is customary for those representing their congregation to appoint a spokesperson who may be invited to speak, though the decision belongs to members of presbytery.
Therefore, the following congregations are cited to attend the meeting of presbytery on Tuesday 15 August in the Hebridean Inn near Broadford:
Portree, Kilmuir & Stenscholl , Applecross, Lochcarron and Torridon, Glenelg, Kintail & Lochalsh, Gairloch & Dundonnel.
The meeting begins at 11am and you will be free to depart as soon as the item of business in which you have an interest has been addressed, while members of presbytery will remain for the rest of the meeting.
Session Clerks are asked to confirm by 9.00 am on Monday 14 August how many of their congregation will attend.
I would be grateful if those who intend to be present at the meeting give me their names at the end of the service or phone me to ensure they are included.

Summer suns are glowing ….
So says the first line of CH 624 !!!
While they were and we had been enjoying sunshine and warmth these last few weeks, we seem to be back to normal Skye Summer weather. Why not consider using one of these wet, windy or cool days to write an article for the Summer edition of your Church Magazine.
Articles can for example, be on a favourite hymn or passage from the Bible, your favourite poem (or one of your own) a famous or less famous person, or any topic that you think would be of interest to those reading the magazine.
Contributions can be handwritten or typed and can be placed in the red magazine folder in the Front Vestibule. If articles are typed it would be appreciated if these could be emailed directly to wwm74marl@hotmail.com
We hope to publish this edition by Sunday 27 August, so contributions should be submitted please by Sunday 13 August.
Basis of Union (Deferred) :
Copies of the official Church of Scotland document detailing the terms of the above Union of Portree Church of Scotland and Kilmuir & Stenscholl Church of Scotland are available in the Front Vestibule.
Next Sunday, 16 July 2023, all Members and Adherents of the church will be issued with a voting card on which they indicated if they accept the terms of Union. (Please bring a pen or pencil with you to complete your voting paper)
The results of this voting are for the information of Presbytery who retain the final decision regarding the proposed Union.
